Daniel Boone
Siege of Boonesborough, September 8, 1778

In mid-June 1778, Daniel Boone escaped from the Shawnee Indians in the Ohio Country after four and a half months of captivity and reached Fort Boonesborough, Kentucky in time to warn the settlers there of a pending Indian attack. Foiling an attempt by Chief Black Fish to capture him and his officers during treaty talks prior to the siege, Daniel Boone led the 45 defenders of Boonesborough in their successful repulse of more than 400 Shawnee and Wyandot warriors over ten days of relentless attack.
